The Legacy Trail is a transformative nine-mile walking and biking trail that will seamlessly link the iconic Kentucky Horse Park to downtown Lexington.

As a crucial component of Lexington’s Greenway Master Plan, this multi-use corridor is set to redefine the city’s recreational landscape. Phase I of the trail is scheduled for completion in time for the prestigious 2010 World Equestrian Games, fostering an essential connection between the north end of town and the vibrant East End neighborhood.

EHI conducted route evaluation services for the project’s Feasibility Study. Our expertise has played a pivotal role in trail planning activities, specifically in the Downtown and Lexmark segments. We reviewed and evaluated route alternatives, considering neighborhood dynamics, technical considerations, and other factors that bear significance in the design process. With the urban section along 3rd Street, we prioritized creating a coexistence between pedestrians and vehicular traffic, ensuring a safe and accessible experience.

The Legacy Trail will be a valuable asset, promoting a healthier and more connected Lexington.
